Difference between GaN charger and normal charger

Gallium nitride (GaN) is known as the third generation of semiconductor materials. Compared with silicon, its performance is exponentially improved, and it is more suitable for high-power devices, smaller size and higher power density than silicon. The frequency of GaN chip is much higher than silicon, which effectively reduces the size of internal transformer and other original parts, and the excellent heat dissipation performance also allows the internal original parts to be arranged more precisely, which finally solves the contradiction between charging rate and portability perfectly. Obviously, gallium nitride is the material we are looking for instead.

After understanding the characteristics of each material, the difference between GaN charger and normal charger is self-evident, GaN charger is smaller in size with the same power and better heat dissipation, so it can easily achieve small size and high power.

Advantages and disadvantages of GaN

Compared with other semiconductors, gallium nitride has higher breakdown field strength, saturation electron migration rate and thermal conductivity, which means gallium nitride is more suitable for high power and high frequency power devices than silicon.

At the same time, there is another advantage: small size and high power density.

Don't underestimate the small size, the higher the power, the bigger the size of the charging head. When it comes to 27W or even 40W fast charging, the size of the normal charging head is almost as big as a power bank. At this moment, you will miss Apple's 5W charging head, only the same size as a tofu block. So is it possible that there is a material that can realize the demand of fast charging with small size and high power? This is the expectation of gallium nitride in the early stage of its birth.

At present, some powerful GAN charger factories have been developed in China, such as Zonsan, Anker, Xiaomi and so on. However, if there are wholesalers or distributors who need to find a source charger factory, I would recommend zonsan.
